Abstract:

Contains handwritten, typescript, and carbon copies of various articles and poems written by James Noble Hatch. Most of the materials concern public civil engineering and transportation projects. Some of the materials were likely submitted to engineering journals and various newspapers including the Oakland Tribune. Includes a small amount of miscellany including Hatch's California State Board of Registration for Civil Engineers membership card for structural engineers, and two published poems, "The California Poppy" and "The Leaven of Light." Also contains a scrapbook containing mostly clippings of articles on various engineering projects throughout the United States.

James Noble Hatch (born 1868 in California) was a civil engineer who worked in Chicago, Michigan, California, and perhaps elsewhere. Among his projects was the design of the power sub-stations for Henry Huntington's Pacific Electric Railway System. He was also a poet, publishing "Mirthful Musings" in 1925.
